Display

The Realme 8s 5G features a 6.5-inch IPS display. On paper, it appears to be fairly identical to the one in the Realme 8 5G, including the 1080 x 2400-pixel resolution (20:9), which works out to approximately 405 ppi of density. The refresh rate was set at 90Hz, with a peak brightness of 600 nits. We initially assumed that the two were on the same panel, but upon closer study, that may not be the case. The refresh rate of 90Hz is available.

Memory

Internal storage is 128 GB, with 6 GB and 8 GB RAM options. On the Realme 8s 5G, Realme has enabled the popular dynamic RAM expansion option. Our evaluation unit is the higher-tier 8GB RAM and 128GB storage edition, which means that its “virtual” RAM capacity should be roughly 13GB after transferring some data to storage.

Camera

The Realme 8s 5G employs a triple-camera configuration with an improved main camera. One of the areas where the Realme 8s 5G outperforms the earlier Realme 5G is the camera configuration. You still get one less camera than previous Realme 8 phones, most likely as a cost-cutting move to allow for the addition of 5G at a lower pricing point. That is still the case. However, the main camera on the back of the Realme 8s 5G has been upgraded to a 64MP Quad-Bayer unit, rather with a 48MP one.

The Realme 8s 5G sports two 2MP, f/2.4 secondary cameras, one for depth data and the other for a dedicated, fixed-focus macro. These are either OmniVision or GalaxyCore, according to configuration data. In theory, they may be used interchangeably. But we doubt it would make a significant difference.

The camera app UI on the Realme 8s 5G is mostly similar. The general design is straightforward, with few menus – most functions are now on the main Rolodex, which is a nice thing. It provides AI Scene Enhancement. It’s similar to an advanced HDR mode in that it may stack numerous shots to expand dynamic range even further, but the most noticeable “improvement” is the increased color saturation.

Network

It is no secret that adding 5G to a phone still costs a lot of money, and doing it on a low-cost phone without breaking the bank usually means opting for lower-quality specs in other areas. All of this isn’t to imply that there aren’t excellent alternatives to the Realme 8s 5G at this pricing. You must still consider whether 5G is a priority for you or whether you would prefer go 4G and obtain a cheaper or more well-rounded phone.
